Rumack: You can tell me, I'm a doctor. Elaine Dickinson: There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

Nice for GA but does it works outside the US as well? Africa, Asia or places where GPS information is not up to date?

This is a totally awesome bit of research. I heard it being tested over Kansas last year. An AUDIBLE warning comes out on 121.5 telling everybody "Hi I'm the computer & Im gonna last this son of a bitch...all by myself" However, it makes an alarm every change in approach, tells you exactly what is it is doing every step of the way. It was an interesting time on 121.5, way better than the MEOW's.

Except that from what I have read it is portrayed to be effective 100 per cent of the time.

So what happens if for any number of reasons the GPS coverage/accuracy is degraded? (which happens routinely). Just take a look at the Notams.

What happens is no worse than what would have happened without the autoland.

If your in a Cirrus Vision Jet, you go to the back-up system and pull the parachute. Redundancy is good.

Nothing to worry about here, huh...
