Airbags lift off: Airplanes offer safety devices in some seatbelts

提交时间:

If you’ve been seated in a bulkhead row, near an exit-row door or in business- or first-class seats on newer planes, you may have already strapped on an airbag and not even noticed. Unlike automobiles, airplane airbags aren’t built into the vehicle but added onto seatbelts in what looks like extra padding. (overheadbin.msnbc.msn.com) 更多...

Thanks for the post. I've had those in exit rows on Spirit's newer A-319 and A-321s and wasn't sure what they were.

So what sets off the air bag?

@Victor Engel The device is set of by the deceleration force of the the crash, just the same as car air bags!

@Julius, right. I figured that, but where is the deceleration sensor, and how is the information communicated to the seat belt? More to the point, how likely would it be for a 12 year old kid horsing around to be able to set one off?

Sorry Victor, I don't know all the answers, only some of them LOL
