Incident: JAL B787 near Tokyo on Jan 29th 2016, engine shut down in flight
A JAL Japan Airlines Boeing 787-800, registration JA822J performing flight JL-17 (dep Jan 28th) from Vancouver,BC (Canada) to Tokyo Narita (Japan) with 166 people on board, was enroute at FL410 about 150nm northeast of Tokyo's Narita Airport when the crew received indication the right hand engine (GEnx) had failed... Engine reliability had been awfully good but latest spate of issues (GE, PW, another one can't remember) .. maybe pushing the envelope? From a firsthand pax report of "shaking" and "flames" (compressor stall?) indicate major malf. Have to wait for more details.
