Once you see regulators like Singapore and UK start restricting/banning 737max operations things are getting serious and there is belief that safety may be compromised and they do not want the expense of a response to another disaster in their turf

Remove the suspect MCAS system software entirely until the design is proven. Two pilots and existing instrumentation has served us well. Perhps this is part of the effort to remove pilots from the cockpit and it has got ahead of itself.
