Can anyone tell me what those thingy's are on the underside of the engines that protrude forward?
Those are part of the kit to allow 737's to operate from gravel strips. They are vortex dissipators fitted to the engine nacelles. They blow bleed air to dissipate vortices that might suck up gravel into the engine while on the ground.

Jim thanks for that link- I saw the gravel deflector on the NW's and the info for that was in the link also. I have seen 737's fitted with "blow in doors" on the fan cowls also, but I can't remember why the doors were there.
