Fatal plane crash near Julian

I was contacted by a reporter from ABC this morning about the crash and can confirm that the tail number was N7145U.
"It really wasn't good wind to be flying in, that's for sure." The actual quote was "It really wasn't good WEATHER to be flying in, that's for sure." But then the media had the aircraft listed as a Piper Mooney for most of the day, so what can you expect?
Have flown in that area....canyons, a few high peaks and swirling winds through the Julian pass. Prayers for the families.
How can you even connect KSMO with this accident?
