ICON Hikes A5 Price
Icon Aircraft told customers who have placed a deposit on the amphibious light sport A5 that the price for aircraft to be delivered in 2018 has increased 50 percent, to $389,000, for a “fully loaded” version that includes retractable landing gear, among other features that will be absent from the $269,000 base model to follow no sooner than 2019. That's awful. waiting all this time for a airplane at a certain expected cost and not its ONLY 50% higher. no thanks, I'll seek another aircraft now,
You could buy a used AC that would preform better for that price. Don't see the deal being worthwhile in the first place. Just another new model.
Really? Can you point to the aircraft that does what an Icon A5 does, let alone one that does it with better performance and a lower price? The problem with Icon is that it's a VERY niche plane. Can you can go out and get another "recreational" aircraft, but not one that lands/takes off on water, foldable wings for trailering etc.
I think it is simply a case of a really poor management team that felt they were in the drivers seat regarding terms of sale. Now they need to try and bank a profit with every sale and as we know, that's easier said than done in the aircraft business.

Sounds like the drug price increase all over...I wouldn't buy one even if they dropped the price to the one originally offered...
In 2008 the price of $ 139K was quoted and now these guys jacked it up to 389K, ALMOST 3 TIMES AS MUCH. The A5 was built for a market that does not exist, its performance is poor compared to used but well maintained Cessnas and Pipers selling for the same 389K. Being able to land on wáter does not justify the extra expense and with a purchase contract that even after several pages deletion is still mistifying more potential clients are deserting.
Agreed. Another "aviation pipe dream" for an advertised price that never materialized.
