(PDF) Use of a Complex Airplane During a Commercial Pilot or Flight Instructor Practical Test
The FAA issued Notice 8900.463, Use of a Complex Airplane During a Commercial Pilot or Flight Instructor Practical Test, effective Apr. 24, 2018. This notice outlines an FAA policy no longer requiring an applicant for a commercial pilot certificate (ASE) or flight instructor certificate (ASE) to provide a complex airplane for the practical test. The commercial Airman Certification Standards and instructor Practical Test Standards will be amended to reflect this policy. (www.faa.gov) 更多...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
IMO, it's a good amendment to the PTS for those certificates while leaving the complex sign-off requirement from a CFI before acting as PIC in a complex aircraft. It also provides aircraft rental cost savings for those pilots training for the commercial and CFI certificates. Good job FAA.

FAA Eliminates Complex Aircraft Requirement for Some Checkrides
The FAA has addressed a long-simmering aircraft availability issue that focuses on pilots trying to earn some pilot certificates. Until yesterday, the agency required commercial pilot applicants, as well as applicants for single-engine flight instructor ratings, to fly at least a portion of the checkride in a complex aircraft, that is, one with retractable landing gear, flaps and a constant speed propeller.
