Flights cancelled in Alaska due to ash concerns from Pavlof Volcano

提交时间:

Twenty Alaska Airlines flights have been cancelled Monday and about 1,300 people will be affected, according to spokeswoman Bobbie Egan. Flights to and from Bethel, Nome, Kotzebue, Barrow and Dead Horse have been cancelled and conditions are currently being monitored in Fairbanks. The plume of ash emitted from Pavlof Volcano has risen to about 37,000 feet and is extending for 400 miles to the northeast, as of Monday morning, according to the Alaska Volcano Observatory. If the plume is moving NE, Anchorage could be threatened which would cause lots of freight problems. Hopefully it is high enough for winds at that level to move it more eastward out onto the tundra of northern Canada.
