American Airlines flight diverts for more than 24hrs.

提交时间:

An American Airlines flight from New York (JFK) to Delhi (DEL) diverted to London Heathrow (LHR) after a passenger medical emergency. The flight couldn't depart because of crew rest requirements, and AA isn't cleared to fly from LHR to DEL. It is unclear what will happen to the passengers and the flight itself, but authorities are working on a solution. The flight was under flight number AAL292, a Boeing 777-300er (N725AN) was used. this is not making sense, given the medical emergency for the affected passenger and the long inconvenience to the rest of passengers and crew. Where is the supervisor for common sense solution to extraordinary occasions when you need him? How about filing for New York, taking off, and then refiling in the air for Delhi.?

Commonsense died a long time ago: http://www.stmaryssportsmen.org/stories/obituary_common_sense.htm - A good read that explains a lot around the world

I don't think you can refuel in the air with a passenger airliner, or I misunderstood your comment.

What Patrick is saying, I think, is that they should file a flight plan for JFK, then while airborne, file a change to the plan to replace JFK with DEL as the destination. The fuel requirements would be the same-ish so that wouldn't really be an issue.

refiling, not refueling, sorry. I read it wrong. Haha.

But you’re absolutely right about the mid-air refueling.

Looks like they got out of there under AAL295. Interestingly enough, the only other time this flight number has been used recently was in March when 292 was diverted to Bangor on the return flight:

Yes, that's very true as I looked on flightradar24 and FlightAware. They were approved! Woohoo!

Sounds like a reserved special-use flight number

Interesting, it’s only 300 miles further via EGGW and about the same overflight permissions needed as the direct route. Maybe Eurocontrol has some restrictions but you would think there would be an exception due to a medical diversion?
